My Story

pon graduating from Boston College as a psychology major, I found myself constantly fascinated over what I thought to be an incredibly innovative app idea. I began to chase this idea, which propelled me into the world of technology and birthed my passion for programming. I am thrilled and driven by innovation. Thinking and creating in ways that will make for a better experience for my community is the purpose I intend to serve. Possessing the skills to turn what may seem like an intangible idea into a tangible application intrigues me. As I continue to learn programming, I understand that problem solving is my driving force. After months of debugging, I have been pushed beyond my comfort zone to find solutions to roadblocks. No single challenge in programming is always the same, nor are the solutions. This is a very unique quality of programming; it is ever changing and ever evolving.

My Journey

I entered Iron Hack’s coding boot camp, which gave me experience with all stages of the development cycle for developing dynamic web projects. While enrolled in Iron Hack’s program, I worked as a full-time teacher at a low-income school and infused the knowledge I gained into my classroom’s curriculum by building a fully functional game alongside my students based off of our lesson. I began hosting an after school program for young girls who attended my school who gained interest in coding. Soon after the completion of my program at Iron Hack, I began to get involved in local hackathons and meetups around my community to keep myself involved in the tech ecosystem of Miami. I returned to Iron Hack’s school as a course manager, where I currently focus on DRY code principles, debugging, design patterns, and test driven development on applications built with MongoDB, Express, Angular, and Node for 18+ students.

Working Qualities

olby is practical and reserved but very ambitious. An achiever and a hard worker, she respects success. Generally, she has a good, earthy sense of humor. She is purposeful, self-willed, industrious, realistic and responsible. Extremely serious and mature, she is capable of accepting responsibilities and does so willingly. She is goal-oriented and an achiever by nature -- she's a hard worker and is justifiably proud of the tangible results of her efforts. She tends to have "tunnel-vision" -- which allows her to block out extraneous matters and to concentrate totally on the matter at hand. As such, she is the ideal one to manage or administrate any ongoing project and to be practical and efficient at it. She is quite thorough and is known for being totally persistent, tenacious and tireless in reaching her goals. A careful worker, she enjoys creating things. She is neat and orderly and usually will go out of her way to be helpful and useful to others. She is practical, reliable, and efficient and is quite skillful at organizing, directing and planning. With her tendency to be highly focused and very goal-oriented, she has a good head for business. She has a dreamy, fanciful, and a very creative imagination.
